El Barbero

This project saw the remodelling of a commercial premises from a restaurant to the flag ship store of Costa Rica´s no.1 gents barber shop El Barbero. Located in the heart of Escazú, San Jose, the brief for this project was to create a modern stripped back aesthetic that tips it’s cap to the long heritage of the profession.
Concept
Exposed structure, internal openings, brushed steel, red brickwork and custom made tufted leather seating are paired with hanging plants, pendant lighting and functional LEDs to create a modern take on the historic barber shop. The brief was to create a social space to relax with a beer and indulge in pampering - a very different experience to shuffling down a queue of chairs in silence waiting your turn. We were honoured to be invited to work with El Barbero on this project and look forward to seeing their staff and customers enjoying time at their new flagship store.
